Judy M. Henke

August 30, 1935 -November 11, 2010

Judy M. Henke, 75, of Janesville, WI went to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 11, 2010 after being diagnosed with liver cancer in May 2009. She was born in La Crosse, WI on August 30, 1935 to Chester and Marjorie (Westness) Miller. Her dad made his living as a glazier. He moved his family to Janesville in 1941 after George Fletcher of Fletcher Glass Company drove to La Crosse looking for the “good glass man” he’d heard about. Judy was a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and proud of the fact that the Church’s first services were held in her parents home. The Church was officially organized in April 1942, and now has a current membership of over 900 souls. Judy attended Roosevelt grade school and graduated from Janesville Senior High School (now JPAC) in 1954. She married Fred Henke on August 7th of that year. They raised four daughters and for a period of time, took in foster children. They are pleased to still have contact with two of them. Judy’s 10 year career as a Prent mini-shifter was interrupted by a six year relocation to Fort Wayne, IN when her husband took a transfer to the new truck plant in 1985. She truly enjoyed her time in Indiana. After returning to Janesville, she worked another seven years until her M. S. forced her to retire. In addition to enjoying raising her family, she enjoyed being active in her Church and Church school. She liked to sew, knit, bowl, work in her flower garden and eat breakfast at the Armory every Sunday. Judy is survived by her husband, Fred, three sisters, three daughters, Connie (Alan) Atkinson of Beloit, WI, Candice Jones of Jacksonville, NC and Carrie Nickel of Janesville, 2 foster daughters, Angie and Debbie; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Corinne Reick in 2000. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 709 Milton Avenue, Janesville with Pastor Mark Lindner officiating. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew’s Church. Memorials, in lieu of flowers would be appreciated, if they were made in Judy’s name to either HospiceCare, Inc: 3001 W. Memorial Drive, Janesville, WI 53548 or St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church: 709 Milton Ave., Janesville, WI 53545. A warm and heartfelt Thank You to the entire staff of HospiceCare, Inc. and Mercy Hospital for all of your compassion, concern and caring during Judy’s last days. Assisting the family is Henke-Clarson Funeral Home. www.henkeclarson.com.
